Oskar Fischinger: Of Light And Structure

Oskar Fischinger was one of the pioneer's of abstract avant-garde filmmaking in Germany in the early 1920's. His unique talents were highly sought after, including his collaboration in the 1929 Fritz Lang film, "Women in the Moon." With the rise of Nazi Germany, Fischinger left for America to pursue filmmaking in Hollywood; he was immediately well received. The paintings of Oskar Fischinger are strong statements of geometric abstraction; vivid imagery that transports the viewer into intricate structures of reality where the geometric replaces the natural, and alternate plains form brilliant, and complex abstract images. Presenting seven paintings by Oskar Fischinger created between 1948 -1961, some have been museum exhibited. There have been retrospective museum exhibitions of Oskar Fischinger's paintings and films internationally during his lifetime and since his death n 1967.
